The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a 2017 open-world action–adventure game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U. It redefined the structure of the The Legend of Zelda with a fully open and physics-driven world.

The story begins with Link awakening from a century-long slumber in a ruined Hyrule. With little memory of the past, he must regain his strength, uncover what happened to Princess Zelda, and ultimately defeat Calamity Ganon. Unlike previous entries, players are free to explore the world in any order, including the option to challenge the final boss early.

The game emphasizes player freedom, environmental interaction, and experimentation. Its physics engine allows creative problem-solving, whether through combat, puzzle-solving, or traversal. Weapons degrade over time, encouraging adaptability, while the Sheikah Slate provides abilities such as remote bombs, stasis, magnetism, and ice creation.

With its vast landscapes, dynamic weather system, minimalist storytelling, and atmospheric soundtrack, Breath of the Wild is widely considered one of the most influential and critically acclaimed games of its generation.
